The Attacks Of 26/11 - Film Review - Nana Patekar

The world watched in horror as a handful of terrorists launched an audacious onslaught on the financial capital of India, Mumbai, on 26th November, 2008. Ram Gopal Varma's, The Attacks of 26/11 is an honest effort to reconstruct and present the events of that fateful day to movie audiences across the world.

As soon as it begins, the movie draws you into its realistic setting, carefully chronicling the attacks as they happened. It is as if you're reliving the horrific events as you're taken through a series of gruesome killings, with blood and gore filling the frames of the film. Even though you aren't a stranger to the event, the movie gives you a jolt as it brings you face to face with the inhumanity of the whole act.
If the first half details the attacks highlighting the helplessness and valour of the ill equipped Mumbai police, the second half is where the movie actually takes off. You watch with bated breath as it builds up toward its climax with the exchange between Kasab and the Joint Commissioner of Police standing out in its brilliant execution. You are blown away by the stark contrast of the scene when Kasab's aspirations of a beautiful afterlife are met with the unsettling reality of the decaying bodies of his accomplices in the morgue. Equally praiseworthy is Nana Patekar's speech as the Joint Commissioner of Police where he tells Kasab the real meaning of Islam.

The Attacks of 26/11 lives up to its pre release buzz. The movie leaves you emotionally exhausted as it completely avoids all commercial trappings to relate an incident that shook the nation. Not for the faint hearted, The Attacks of 26/11 deserves 3.5 stars!
